An intensive sprint toward real scientific output.

Research Bootcamp is an intensive scientific collaboration event where members of CISBM gather to rapidly develop research proposals, manuscripts, computational analyses, experimental concepts, and other collaborative research activities.

Rather than assembling around a single fixed topic, participants form working groups around concrete scientific questions and push them forward with unusual focus and speed. The aim is not discussion for its own sake, but a scientifically valuable output (a manuscript draft, an analysis pipeline, or a proposal) that is suitable for publication or future funding.

Each Research Bootcamp is organized around a defined, condensed period of shared working time. Participants commit to focused, sustained collaboration rather than the intermittent contact typical of standing committees or long-running projects. Working groups are formed around specific research questions proposed by members in advance, and progress is expected to be visible from day to day.

The intensity is deliberate: by compressing collaborative work into a defined window, Research Bootcamp aims to produce tangible scientific artifacts (a manuscript draft, a computational analysis, an experimental design, or a funding proposal) rather than open-ended notes for later follow-up. Outputs are expected to be developed to a standard suitable for submission to a journal, conference, or funding body, though the format itself does not guarantee any particular outcome.

Research Bootcamp draws on both parts of CISBM's community:Advisory & Distinguished Members, whose experience helps set scientific direction and evaluate feasibility, andEmerging Researchers, who bring the energy, technical range, and fresh perspective that intensive work demands. Working groups are typically mixed across both, reflecting CISBM's view that scientific merit, not seniority, determines who leads a given piece of work.
